The MPQ2946 and MPQ86760 provide two cutting-edge power conversion solutions for central computers in autonomous vehicles with features including high power density, versatility, and integrated design.
Central computers within autonomous vehicles power an intensive workload, including real-time data processing, environmental sensing and monitoring, and critical decision-making regarding motion control. Increasing the size of the power converter can meet the higher power consumption and delivery required for central computers; however, a large, bulky power converter also detracts from the overall range and performance of the vehicle due to the added weight. As a result, automotive designers are looking for a simplified power converter design that can accommodate the considerable processing power of central computers.
The MPQ2946 and MPQ86760 provide two cutting-edge power conversion solutions for central computers in autonomous vehicles with features including high power density, versatility, and integrated design. The MPQ2946 can be configured for up to 8 phases for 3-rail operation, achieving high power density that meets the required processing power of central computers. This digital multi-phase controller includes a built-in multiple-time programmable (MTP) memory that simplifies system design by allowing the user to store and restore device configurations. It is available in a TQFN-48 (7mmx7mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
Additional features of the MPQ2946 multi-phase controller include:
- Digital Interface for Configuration and Monitoring
- Automatic Loop Compensation
- Automatic Phase-Shedding with and without Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) to Improve Overall Efficiency
- Phase-to-Phase Active Current Balancing
- Input Voltage (VIN) and Output Voltage (VOUT) Monitoring
- Output Current (IOUT) Monitoring
- Regulator Temperature Monitoring
- Protections:
- Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO)
- Over-Voltage Protection (OVP)
- Under-Voltage Protection (UVP)
- Over-Current Protection (OCP)
- Over-Temperature Protection (OTP)
- Cyclical Redundancy Check (CRC) for Memory Transformation
- Separate EN Pin for Each Rail
- Configurable Digital Load Line
The MPQ86760 is an Intelli-PhaseTM solution that integrates internal power MOSFETs and gate drivers in a TQFN-21 (4mmx5mm) package. The internal power MOSFETs and gate drivers offer an optimal dead time (DT) and reduced parasitic inductance for high efficiency. In addition to the compact design, this monolithic half-bridge can power numerous central computer subsystems with a 45A maximum continuous IOUT across a wide VIN range. It is also available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
Additional features of the MPQ86760 Intelli-PhaseTM solution include:
- Accepts Tri-State Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) Signals
- Built-In Switch for Bootstrap (BST)
- Accu-SenseTM Current Sense
- Temperature Sense
- Current-Limit Protection
- Over-Temperature Protection (OTP)
- Used for Multi-Phase Operation
